Empowering Spaces: Advancing Trauma-Informed Leasing in DV Shelters and Transitional Housing

 In the quest to enhance the survivor experience, Coburn Place has integrated of trauma-informed practices into leasing and housing processes and policies. We aim to outline a transformative approach that reexamines traditional rules and policies, advocating for a survivor-centric leasing model in shelters and transitional housing. Trauma-informed leasing is not merely a trend but the future standard for organizations dedicated to supporting survivors of domestic violence. Be part of the movement that redefines survivor support through compassionate housing policies. The positive effects of trauma-informed leasing extend to people and the organization. It establishes a more balanced housing approach that benefits survivors, frontline staff, and organizations alike.

Indiana began implementing the Lethality Assessment Protocol - Maryland Model in 2009. Throughout that time, it was often asked how survivors who were screened felt about the process itself. Mobile Advocacy: A Means to Accomplishing Survivor-Centered Services

In 2021, ICADV collaborated with programs from across the state to better understand and evaluate the "mobile advocacy" service model for survivors. Some programs have been conducting Mobile Advocacy since the 1970s while others transitioned to MA in the wake of COVID-19. Through the process, we discovered how impactful MA is to survivors in centering their needs. In our presentation, you will hear from folxs doing MA across the state as well as a sneak peek into our MA Toolkit to support other programs doing this work in Indiana and around the country.
