About me
Jill L. English is a native of Indianapolis and a graduate of DePauw University, where she was the founding president of the first chartered historically black Greek organization at the institution. She has been an organizer and advocate for social justice and racial equity for over 30 years. She began working with abused and neglected children in the 1990s and served in various roles, advocating for children and families, with a focus on understanding diversity and the impact of trauma. Jill trained Marion County foster parents and Court Appointed Special Advocates on race and cultural sensitivity for seventeen years. She served as a guardian ad litem for Marion county youth before transitioning to her role as Director of the Interrupting Racism for Children in 2018. Jill used her racial equity skills nationally and facilitated workshops for The People’s Institute for survival and Beyond and The Soul Focused Group. She locally facilitates with Spirit and Place’s Powerful Conversations on Race and Interrupting Racism for Children at Child Advocates. She has been a key-note and guest speaker on the impact of racism for several government, non-profit, education and healthcare organizations. Jill serves on boards focused on youth advancement and trains individuals on facilitating difficult conversations. She is a qualified administrator for Intercultural Development Inventory, a certified Train the Trainer for Civic Reflection (Salisbury University), a certification in Diversity and Inclusion from Cornell University and a Yellow Belt certification from the Six Sigma Racial Equity Institute. She’s received several nominations and individual and departmental awards for work in community and equity. Jill currently serves as the Chief of Community Equity and Inclusion for Child Advocates, Inc. In her spare time she enjoys her family, traveling and serving the community as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
